Shinjuku Scene

A street corner scene from the iconic Tokyo district.

Just to add, this video is one of my favorite YouTube creators, Abao in Tokyo. He does something my daughter calls "body doubling." A silent video of someone studying that you can study with as well. Not a word is exchanged, just the quiet knowing there's somebody else on the other side of the screen doing something you are doing too.

Set your afternoon to some quiet, peaceful music and a body double studying beside you.

The Hidden Cost of the "Unfair" Performance Review: How to Stop Backing Down and Demand Absolute Clarity

Image
The standard advice around annual performance appraisals usually boils down to a few comforting platitudes: Be open to feedback. Take the high road. Use it as a learning opportunity. When you sit across from a manager who has blatantly started contradicting themselves—praising your work as exceptional one minute and slapping a mediocre score on your review the next—the "high road" feels a lot like a trap. The Work We Cannot Measure

Image
Gospel: Matthew 18:15-20   Career Stewardship Brief Slug: the-work-we-cannot-measure There is a kind of work that never appears on a résumé. It is the work of becoming trustworthy. The work of learning how to speak truth without humiliating another person. The work of remaining open when correction is deserved. The work of noticing that a colleague is drifting, that a team is hardening, that an organization has begun to reward silence more than wisdom. The readings for Sunday, September 6, 2026, place that responsibility before us with unusual clarity. Ezekiel is described as a watchman: someone entrusted to hear, to notice, and to speak when silence would leave another person exposed to harm. The Gospel of Matthew gives that responsibility a human shape: begin privately, speak directly, seek restoration rather than victory. Paul gathers the whole vocation into one sentence: love does no wrong to a neighbor. ( Catholic Gallery ) This is not only a teaching about congregational lif...
